BAND - Fools Gold

So THIS is where We Are Scientists' old drummer ended up

Who are they?
A sprawling collective from LA numbering nine (at their last photo shoot) that centers around front men Luke Top and Lewis Pasacov (of Foreign Born fame). The band also includes ex-members of The Fall and We Are Scientists.

What do they do?

Afropop-influenced hippy vibes reimagined for a 21st century US audience, like a West Coast Vampire Weekend but more authentic. Think block-party music for armchair tourists. Israeli-born Luke also sings a vast part of his lyrics in Hebrew. Why should I care? The band are deeply in love with African music, so spending time with their album will give you a crash course in soukous music, Eritrean music, and even Tuareg desert blues music. And you can dance to it.

How can I get involved?
The band are currently touring the States and hit New York on July 25 playing at Central Park’s Summerstage. Their debut eponymous album has been out on discerning LA label Iamsound for some time.

Where do I head now?
The internet is awash with praise for the band and free MP3s. Check out the Hype Machine for a load of tracks, including a Memory Tapes remix of Nadine and Fools Gold’s take on Marina And The Diamonds’ I Am Not A Robot. Iamsound has the album for sale.

This is their Myspace page
