Silky Tap Pants Are Totally Okay As Outerwear
Just don't have your butt cheeks hanging out, 'kay?

It takes a lot to draw our attention away from a Chanel bag, but that’s exactly what happened upon gazing at the house’s ad for the Cocoon collection featuring Vanessa Paradis — you know the one, the black-and-white where she’s all laid out on a couch snuggling a double-C tote like it’s a pillow? Yeah, well every time we see it, our gaze shifts downward to her hemline, to what appears to be the silkiest pair of tap shorts ever.
For all we know, she could actually be wearing a full-on dress that costs $10,000 (it’s hard to tell), but that’s so moot. Bottom line is that the pic got us dreaming of breezy, lingerie-inspired shorts to throw on during the dog days of summer. There’s such an insouciance to them; they’re like the laid-back and more feminine little sisters to Ms Hot Pants.
Urban Outfitters is offering a veritable feast of them right now: Pick from different colors, lace details, scalloped hems… so many options! We found a good velvet version for fall, too (because fall is alllll about velvet — stay tuned!). But obvs these are for weekend wear only, due to the fact that they barely cover your butt (bonus: we’ve even sourced the perfect boyshort undies from Target to wear underneath.
And you have no idea how badly we want to say something totally trite right now, like, “These are not suitable for work… unless you’re that kind of working girl!” or “Not suitable for work, but totally essential to WERKING it!” but we’ll spare you. Oh, oops, too late.
