Andres DC Is This Bonkers Restaurant In Bogota

It's like being part of a weird show as you eat the greatest traditional Colombian fare

So there's a couple things we think you should do once in your lifetime. Eat a meatball. Hang glide. And get your ass down to Bogotá. This city is off the shizzle with a capital S. We love it because the food reminds of why we like to eat in the first place. They grow all these awesome fruits we’ve never heard of and make killer empañadas. But they also love their food as much as we like eating it, especially at Andrés DC, the place to go for great, traditional Colombian dishes in the oddest way.

While we were sad this institution just outside the city was closed on our visit, the gods sent down beams of luck on our side: they just recently opened up a sister property in the Zona Rosa district. The restaurant is seriously more like an experience, or like some weird show you’re inevitably a part of.

The menus come in these heavy silver trunks where you have levers to turn the pages. And all the food is served in the most interactive ways (for instance, if you ask for lime, they bring you the whole damn thing cut in half with one of those things that you squeeze it in and all the juice comes out. Here's the crazy shit. A hot model girl followed by a small band will come to random tables, sing you songs, throw confetti at you, then dress you up with a handkerchief on your neck hipster-style and then crown you, like Burger King birthday style. Oh, and some guy who looks like Gene Simmons-slash-devil dressed in black with horns just walks around and stares at you. WTF? And we mean that in the best possible way.

And the food? Best damn meal we’ve had in our lives. The empañadas were crispy with magic fillings, the juices pressed fresh from their garden and don’t even get us started on the steaks. Oh, and when you get the bill, it comes in this huge box, along with bags of candy, a magnifying glass, a flashlight and pen. Yeah, we couldn’t figure it out either.
