South Africa's Kwandwe Ecca Lodge Is Decadent, But Not In A Showy Way

It's all about Africa chic at this remote lodge

Some dreams are just plain unrealistic, people

We're all about once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, like if the Golden Girls had one last live reunion or if Winnie-the-Pooh was real for a day. More realistically, there's that whole safari thing in Africa. It's a "once-in-a-lifetime" thing because a) that shit is so expensive b) your second safari, you're like "eh, been here, done that."

Anyway, we love our animals and we love Africa so there's no better place to send you off than Kwandwe Ecca Lodge on South Africa’s Garden Route, which is in the middle of nowhere. Sure, any African safari is "off the beaten path" but Kwandwe Ecca Lodge is seriously, like, out there. It's super-decadent but not in that showy kind of way, more "Africa chic." The service blew us away and the luxury tents are like miles away from each other, so you don't see anyone but your game driver (our blue-eyed, rifle-toting South African was just what the doctor ordered!).

Here you can spot the Big Five, and our Melton Manor lodge was equipped with private chef, butler and pool. The lodge is also completely unbound (as in animals can enter at leisure: elephants drinking from our pool? Excuse me?) but the best part is that it's a member of Relais & Chateaux. Just sayin’, start saving those air miles.
